WHY YOU MATTER MOST TO ME

Because I have struggled so, I feel a great responsibility to help those that may also be struggling.

Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good. His life has much difficulty and sadness and remains far behind yours. Were it otherwise he would never have been able to find those words.
— Rainer Maria Rilke

My why for this blog and all the work I will continue to do is you.

Recently a friend asked, “Meka, what do you think your purpose is?”

My answer: To capture and document the human experience in such a way that challenges and inspires people to live fuller lives. It took me years to have this level of clarity around that question. But everything I’m doing + desire to do can be described or summarized with this phrase.

I love using the art of storytelling to help people see themselves differently. To keep them encouraged + moving forward. From my work, I want you find the seeds for your unfolding + the light for your becoming.

Why do you matter the most to me?

I want you to feel seen and heard.

How you see yourself determines how you show up in this world. How you show up in this world determines what type of life you live. And what type of life you live can either fill you up or leave you with nothing. And I want you filled up.

Authentically sharing our experiences connects us and creates opportunities for reflection + growth.  Processing your pain and digesting your truths creates the space you need for your own evolution.

Feeling seen + heard helps you evaluate how your experiences are shaping you and your view of the world. It helps you determine how you feel, what you want, and what you need. All of this leads you to figuring out where you fit in + where you don’t, the value of your perspective, and the how + what of your contribution to the world.

Why do you matter the most to me?

I don’t want you to forget how beautiful and necessary you are.

I used to think that God has predestined certain people to make a difference in the world. And I just wasn’t one of the chosen.

Everybody I saw upfront leading and doing anything of significance had certain characteristics that I just didn’t see in myself. Things like charisma, gregariousness, and boldness. I’m reserved and introverted. I feel and think deeply. And mostly prefer solitude.

What I understand now is that we all have something unique + specific to contribute. Everything about my personality, past, gifts, talents, color, build, and interests is perfect for my purpose. The same is true for you.

Here’s what I want you to remember: You were designed and made for more than this. And by this, I mean that job (or business), those bills, them kids, and that man (or woman). I mean no disrespect to your life. I know you love and appreciate most things on that list. But I also know that you can get so caught up in the management of those things that you forget about who you are + why you are. I don’t want that for you. It’s important to me that you get to the more in your life.

So why do I keep showing up here to make sure you don’t quit on yourself?

I’m hoping to make a convincing enough argument for you to believe (and remember) that Your life matters. Your story matters. Your art matters (whatever it may be).

How am I doing so far?

I want the hidden treasure of your highest potential and brilliance to come to the surface + into the light. The only way that happens is if you: keep shining in spite of the darkness (yours and the worlds), keep showing up despite your own inconsistencies, and remember your joy while in the pain of the process.

Your personal evolution + revolutions help us all. First, the change happens in you. Then to your family. Then in and around your community. See where I’m going with this? Were all connected and need each other to truly make this world a better place.

This is my story. Well, more like our story. What’s yours? How do you want to contribute to humanity? And why is it important to you?
